La pròpia dedicatòria ja pot indicar el motiu de la seva visita: "Vinguts aquí alguns membres de la Institució Catalana d'Història Natural per a fer excursions al camp de Tarragona". En aquesta direcció, el Diario de Reus, en la crònica del 6 d'octubre, ho confirma al dir que "En la tarde del lunes [3 d'octubre] llegaron a nuestra ciudad, varios miembros de la "Institució Catalana de Historia Natural" en viaje de estudio por esta Comarca", els quals serien rebuts a l'Ajutament, obrint-se una assemblea presidida per l'Alcalde, on Longí Navàs, en nom dels excursionistes, proposaria "la conveniencia de la celebración periódica de un Congreso de naturalistas de lengua catalana a semejanza del que celebran los Médicos, pues así se divulgarían los conocimientos, de los que cultivan las ciencias naturales y habría ocasión de ponerse en contacto con la Naturaleza" (Diario de Reus, 6-X-1921). Més encara, s'esmenta que un dels signants, Ascensio Codina, agent d'entomologia al Museu de Catalunya i soci de la Institució Catalana d'Història Natural, el 5 d'octubre de 1921, al Teatre Bartrina, va donar "una conferencia pública ilustrada con numerosas proyecciones sobre el interesante tema de "Una excursión entomológica por la zona de influencia española de Marruecos""(Diario de Reus, 5-X-1921). *Poden ser consulats a la xarxa els diferents volums del <a href="https://publicacions.iec.cat/X.do?method=start&LIST.ID=CATALEG&moduleName=novetats_editorials&materia=Instituci%F3%20Catalana%20d%27Hist%F2ria%20Natural.%20Consell%20Directiu%20-%20Membres">Butlletí de la Institució Catalana de Història Natural</a>
