L’estudi de les cartes de corresponsals femenines permet de descobrir tant la seva xarxa social completa com la tasca de les dones que van formar part del seu entorn intel·lectual. A partir de l’anàlisi d’una selecció de més de vuit-centes cartes, aquest llibre fa visibles les dificultats d’aquelles que mantenien soles una economia domèstica malmesa; la reivindicació que moltes van fer dels seus drets laborals, o la lluita perseverant que van mantenir la majoria per compaginar les seves aspiracions artístiques i professionals amb el rol que se’ls havia assignat.
